IMPERFECT LOVE
As I was pondering the theme “Lift Up the Hands Which Hang Down,” I thought of people in my life with heavy burdens. I pray for them, text, call or spend time with them when I can but I know their burdens remain, as heavy as ever. Sometimes I feel like I should be doing more but my time and energy is limited so I try to do something, however small, and hope that it helps.
One day in the temple, the Spirit gave me empathy for Peter as he and the sons of Zebedee waited for Jesus while he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Christ had asked them to watch and pray with him but they fell asleep as he suffered incredible pain. They were imperfect, but they were trying. They couldn’t remove His burden but they came, sitting with Christ at the time He needed them most.
Like Peter, I can’t remove the burdens from those I love but I can do something, however imperfect, to support them, sit with them, and help them feel they are not alone. And that is enough.
